Daniel Ramontseng
Biography
Daniel Ramontseng was born in a mining town called Odendaalsrus in the Free State province of South Africa. He is a collage artist who discovered his artistic talent later in his life. Growing up as a boy in the township, Daniel was more into sports such as soccer and athletics. He discovered his artistic talent long after he has completed his high school education. Daniel became aware of his talent during a time when he was part of an Organisation called Naledi Arts and Culture, the organisation’s mission was to encourage young people from the township to take part in arts and cultural activities. One program that this organisation had was called The Artist in Me, it was a program that introduced Visual art to less privileged kids from the township.
As the program kept going, Daniel decided to also take part alongside the kids and learn with them, his aim was just to encourage them to participate more. As he kept attending classes he started falling in love with paper collage, the ability to just create a story by recycling used magazines and books fascinated him, taking pieces of papers from different magazines telling different stories to combine them and create a totally new story excited him. As he kept participating, the facilitator of that program soon noticed the talent that Daniel had, he encouraged him to take it more seriously, Daniel took the advice and kept working even harder to keep improving.
Daniel’s work is about telling stories of ordinary people, particularly stories of kids growing up in the South African townships. Daniel is now a selling artist, his work is sold through Exhibitions and Social network platforms.
